The Aerosmith and Guns N’ Roses legends joined The Joe Perry Project opening for The Who

Tonight was a legendary night in Los Angeles.
Just hours after confirming their first new music in 13 years, Aerosmith almost had a full reunion. The Joe Perry Project was opening for The Who at the Hollywood Bowl. The group has been on the road over the last few weeks playing headlining shows, and Perry has been joined on this run by his fellow Aerosmith axman Brad Whitford. During their set this evening, Perry and Whitford reunited with singer Steven Tyler for a pair of Aerosmith classics. The trio – alongside Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes, Robert DeLeo of Stone Temple Pilots, Aerosmith touring keyboardist Buck Johnson, and longtime Joe Perry Project drummer Jason Sutter – cranked out the Aerosmith classic “Walk This Way” as well as the band’s hit cover of “Train Kept a Rollin’.”
Before that, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash joined the Joe & Co for a rendition of “Mama Kin.”

Back in 2014, Aerosmith and Slash joined forces for there Let Rock Rule Tour. The trek consisted of 21 shows that summer across the United States and Canada. Both acts were still touring in support of their respective albums that came out in 2012 – Aerosmith’s Music from Another Dimension! and Slash’s Apocalyptic Love, featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators.
There’s certainly a lot of hype surrounding the Aerosmith camp over the last few months. Bassist Tom Hamilton has been touring with his new band Close Enemies, while Joe Perry and Brad Whitford are wrapping up their Joe Perry Project run. Back in July, Steven Tyler took part in Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne’s epic final concert in Birmingham, UK. Today, the group announced a brand new EP in collaboration with rising rocker Yungblud, and Tyler joined Perry and Whitford on stage for a few Aerosmith songs. While the group’s farewell Peace Out Tour was officially cancelled just over a year ago, recent events can’t help but make us wonder – are Aerosmith gearing up for an official reunion with all these random performances?
It would make a lot of sense, actually. While Steven Tyler sounds great, it’s probably too much of an ask to grind out a full farewell tour as previously planned. But, could the Demon of Screamin’ have a handful of shows left in him? That seems pretty plausible given his last few performances. Maybe Aerosmith trim down their tour routing and leave significant space in-between gigs for Steven to rest. They could also follow the Black Sabbath model, and have one big final blowout in Boston where it all started, with hand-picked special guests joining them for a jam.
Only time will tell, but two things we know for sure – the fans would die to see it, and a band as legendary as Aerosmith certainly don’t want to go out on such a sour note.
At the MTV Video Music Awards recently, Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, Nuno Bettencourt, and Yungblud joined forces to pay tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne. The supergroup stormed the stage at UBS Arena in Long Island, New York – the very venue where Aerosmith played their final show before having to cancel the remainder of their Peace Out World Tour. Yungblud and Nuno Bettencourt kicked things off with Ozzy’s signature song “Crazy Train,” followed by “Changes” which Yungblud crushed in July at Back to the Beginning – Black Sabbath and Ozzy’s final show. Also joining them was Black Sabbath and Ozzy keyboardist Adam Wakeman.

After the performance, both Aerosmith and Yungblud shared a brief clip of Steven Tyler and Yungblud embracing, with Steven saying cheekily, “We got a secret!”
Now, the “secret” has been revealed. Aerosmith and Yungblud recently announced a collaborative new single, “My Only Angel.“ The song was born out of their joint recent joint performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last Sunday. The song is currently available for streaming pre-save. But, that’s not all – both acts announced Wednesday that a full, five-song EP is on the way called One More Time. Along with the lead single “My Own Angel,” the EP will feature three more brand new songs, plus a new version of the Aerosmith classic “Back in the Saddle.” It comes out on November 21 through Capitol Records.
While only singer Steven Tyler and guitarist Joe Perry have appeared in the promo material for the upcoming release, a spokesperson for Aerosmith has confirmed that all members – including guitarist Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton, and drummer Joey Kramer – are involved with the project.

The forthcoming record will be available on several vinyl and CD variants.

The previously previewed “My Own Angel” arrives this Friday, September 19.
This is Aerosmith’s first new piece of material in 13 years. The group’s last album Music from Another Dimension! came out back in November of 2012. Featuring the hit single “Legendary Child” plus fan favorites like “Luv XXX,” “Out Go the Lights,” and “Street Jesus,” the album hit No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and peaked at No. 1 on both Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and the UK’s Rock & Metal Albums charts. Yungblud’s new album IDOLS arrived back in June. The record boasts the 9-minute epic “Hello Heaven, Hello,” “Lovesick Lullaby,” and “Zombie” which charted on both the UK Singles Chart and Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Singles.
Steven Tyler also performed at Back to the Beginning earlier this summer. It has been great to see him back on stage performing again. In May of 2023, Aerosmith announced their Peace Out Tour – a final 40-date trek across North America. While the tour kicked off to rave reviews and praise from fans, frontman Steven Tyler sustained a fractured larynx during the band’s performance at UBS Arena on September 9, 2023, just three shows into the band’s lengthy grand finale. After postponing the the bulk of their final run, Aerosmith finally confirmed their rescheduled Peace Out Tour dates for 2024. As it turns out, Tyler’s recovery has taken longer than expected. Finally, back on August 2, 2024, Aerosmith completely canceled the rescheduled shows and retired from the road.
Aerosmith guitarists Joe Perry and Brad Whitford reunited this summer for a string of dates under the Joe Perry Project moniker. The new band also feature Chris Robinson of The Black Crowes on vocals, Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo and drummer Eric Kretz, and Aerosmith touring member Buck Johnson on keyboards.

Yungblud is currently in the midst of a U.S. tour in support of his new album IDOLS which arrived on June 20 via Locomotion/Capitol Records. It is the first installment of a double album. The alt-rock sensation, whose last two albums went to number one in the UK and broke into the Billboard top 100, has a back catalog that has accumulated an astonishing 6 billion streams globally.
The new 13-track IDOLS is Yungblud’s most ambitious yet. Making sure of no distractions, he headed to a location just outside of where he grew up in the north of England with producer Matt Schwartz at the helm, Bob Bradley on additional production, and guitarist Adam Warrington. On IDOLS, Yungblud explores the theme of hero-worship; how we look to others for validation, often putting others’ lives on a pedestal at the expense of the richness of our own experiences. Yungblud says, “We turn to others for an identity before turning to ourselves. Self-belief, self-reclamation, self-evolution and change. As we grow up, we lose our belief in magic and mystery. We begin to rationalize everything; our cage walls build up.” He added, “We compare ourselves to 15 different people before we’ve even had our breakfast.”
Aerosmith have 12 multi-platinum certified albums under their belt. To date, the band has garnered four GRAMMY® Awards, six American Music Awards, and ten MTV Video Music Awards. In 1999, Walt Disney World launched the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, the band’s very own theme park attraction. In 2001, they performed at the Super Bowl Halftime Show and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Throughout a career that spans over five decades, the rock ‘n’ roll legends have sold over 150 million records worldwide, making them the best-selling American rock act of all time. Their music has transcended generations, and while they’ve been selling records since 1973, the band has just achieved a monumental modern-day milestone.
