The band is headlining a major festival later this year

Since longtime drummer Matt Cameron’s surprising departure last summer, Pearl Jam have been very quiet about their future, specifically who will play drums for the band’s next round of tour dates and subsequent album, if they decide to make one.
Frontman Eddie Vedder said recently that the band is currently “woodshedding.” In a new interview with SPIN, guitarist Mike McCready shed some light on what that means exactly. As far as the band’s next move(s), however, he left fans mostly in the dark.
“‘Woodshedding’ is us thinking about it and talking about what it could be,” he said. “I think that’s what Ed was referring to. We’ve been emailing a lot, talking and calling each other. The way we work, as you know, is that we can be very slow and then all of a sudden we’re very fast. So, we’re kind of in our slow phase. It’s going to happen, but I just don’t know when. I would also love to go out and tour this year sometime, but we don’t have anything planned.”
Well, the time has come – Pearl Jam have announced their first gig since Cameron’s exit from the group. In September, the band will be headlining the final night of the Eddie Vedder-curated Ohana Festival. The outing’s 10th installment will also see Tyler Childers headline, along with Eddie Vedder and Friends. With a show finally solidified, now the group just needs to figure out who will be sitting behind the kit for it.
