Joe Satriani announces 2013 Unstoppable Momentum Tour

Joe Satriani 1Legendary guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani has announced his Unstoppable Momentum Tour 2013. The North American trek begins on August 29 in San Diego, CA. After stops all over the U.S. and Canada, Satch will make his way back to California were the run concludes in Oakland. The tour is in support of his 14th studio album, Unstoppable Momentumwhich hit #42 on the Billboard Top 200 and #1 on Billboard Hard Rock.

Joe Satriani is arguably the greatest technical guitarist of all time. He began his careerJoe Satriani 2 as a guitar instructor, and among his most notable pupils are Steve Vai (Whitesnake, Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth), Kirk Hammett (Metallica), David Bryson (Counting Crows) Kevin Cadogan (Third Eye Blind), Larry LaLonde (Primus, Possessed), Alex Skolnick (Testament), Rick Hunolt (ex-Exodus), Charlie Hunter, and David Turin. In 1986, he released his first solo album, and achieved success with his sophomore effort, 1987’s Surfing with The Alien. The album hit #29 on the Billboard Top 200, and eventually went platinum. Since then, every Satriani record has charted in the Billboard Top 200. In 1988, Satriani was hired by Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger to play guitar on his first solo tour.

In 1994, Satriani was called upon to tour with Deep Purple. Aside from his solo career, Satch’s most recent project is the rock supergroup Chickenfoot, along with vocalist Sammy Hagar, drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), and bassist Michael Anthony (ex-Van Halen). The band has released two studio albums, a self-titled debut and their second album, oddly titled Chickenfoot III. The group enjoyed much success, with both albums hitting #4 and #9 respectively on the Billboard Top 200. Throughout his career, Joe has been nominated for 15 Grammy Awards; second-most ever without a win, unfortunately, but still a tremendous feat. It’s good to see Satch back on the road again. This is expected to be one hell of a tour. – by Matt Bishop
