Foo Fighters made their first appearance on SNL in December of 1995, just five months after their self-titled debut album dropped. They would go on to appear on the show seven more times. On May 19, 2012, the band appeared on SNL, peforming with host and musical guest, Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones. Foo Fighters joined Jagger for a medley of Stones’ tunes “19th Nervous Breakdown” and “It’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll (But I Like It).” Dave Grohl and company were so excited to perform with Jagger, but they already had a headlining show on the books that very same night. In a 2021 interview with Howard Stern, Dave Grohl revealed that the band took a helicopter to New York City to soundcheck for SNL, flew back for their gig in Jersey, then back again for the SNL performance.
