After nearly a decade sitting behind the kit, Trivium drummer Alex Bent has left the band. He revealed the news on Friday through his official social media channels. Trivium also released a collective statement wishing Bent all the best, seemingly confirming that there are no hard feelings surrounding the departure.

“I am beyond grateful for the incredible past 9 years with Trivium — filled with unforgettable moments, music, and friendships that I’ll always carry with me,” Bent said in a statement. “I’m so proud of every record and tour we created together, and I know Trivium will continue to dominate the world; they’ll always have my support. While this chapter has come to a close, this is by no means the end of my path as a musician. I’m excited for this new chapter, and I look forward to continuing to create, perform, and share music in new ways. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. Your encouragement means the world.”

Trivium released their own statement responding to Bent’s announcement.

“Trivium wishes Alex Bent success on his future endeavors as he exits the band.”

Alex Bent joined Trivium back in 2016. After Nick Augusto’s four-year stint with the group (2010-2014), Trivium went though two drummers – Mat Madiro and Paul Wandtke before Bent joined the group. Alex played on Trivium’s last three albums – The Sin and The Sentence (2017), What the Dead Men Say (2020), and In the Court of the Dragon (2021). Bent exits as the band’s second-longest tenured drummer behind founding member Travis Smith, who played drums for the group from 1999 through 2010.

Trivium are heading back out on the road this fall. The GRAMMY-nominated heavyweights have announced The Ascend Above the Ashes Tour that kicks off October 31 in Myrtle Beach and runs through December 14, with an epic hometown show in Orlando. The run will feature very special guests Jinjer, with support from Heriot.

Tickets are on sale now.

“We couldn’t be more excited to finally bring this monstrous tour to life — Trivium headlining this fall across North America with the unstoppable force of Jinjer and the crushing energy of Heriot,” says frontman Matt Heafy. “Every night is going to be an absolute onslaught of riffs, sweat, and connection with our fans. This lineup represents the present and future of heavy music, and we’re honored to share the stage with such ferocious talent. See you in the pit.”

Trivium recently wrapped up their monumental co-headlining Poisoned Ascendency Tour with Bullet For My Valentine. Revisit our review and live photos from the run HERE. While this upcoming tour will continue to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their landmark Ascendancy album, fans can also expect new music soon.

In addition to the headlining shows, Trivium recently appeared at Louder Than Life, and will also play a featured slot at Aftershock later this month.

Trivium’s critically acclaimed tenth album, In The Court Of The Dragon, arrived in 2021. This year, the band celebrated 20th anniversary of their 2005 album Ascendancy. The album achieved a gold certification in the UK, and eclipsed sales of 500,000 worldwide. It ignited a string of six consecutive Top 25 debuts on the Billboard Top 200 and five straight Top 3 debuts on the Top Hard Rock Albums Chart, culminating on 2017’s benchmark The Sin And The Sentence. That album elevated the group’s total stream tally past a quarter-of-a-billion. Additionally, “Betrayer” received a GRAMMY® Award nomination in the category of Best Metal Performance.
