Tom Morello’s mother Mary Morello has passed away at the age of 102. The Rage Against The Machine guitarist revealed the news on his social media. Mary was a teacher and activist whose work spanned decades. She fought ferociously against Jim Crow laws, one of which was segregation in schools which was declared unconstitutional in 1954. She also lent unwavering support to the United Farm Workers and the Urban League, and was very outspoken against apartheid and the Persian Gulf War.
Her fierce dedication undoubtedly inspired her talented son to form one of the most important, revolutionary bands in music history.
After Tom shared the news of Mary’s passing, tributes began pouring in from the likes of Shirley Manson (Garbage), Nikki Sixx (Mötley Crüe), Serk Tankian (System of Down), Anthrax, John 5, Dropkick Murphys, Vicky Cornell, Jack Black, and Metallica, among many others.
