The Strokes entered the current phase of their career in 2022 by reestablishing themselves as a formidable live act, notably serving as special guests for Red Hot Chili Peppers on select dates of their global stadium tour. That run—tied to the Chili Peppers’ Unlimited Love era—placed the New York indie rock pioneers back in front of massive audiences, exposing a new generation to their early-2000s garage-rock revival sound while reaffirming their legacy status among contemporaries and younger bands alike. The collaboration continued into 2023, when The Strokes were again tapped as rotating support on the Chili Peppers’ North American and international tour dates alongside other high-profile acts, reinforcing their enduring relevance on major global stages.
Following these high-visibility appearances, the band—fronted by Julian Casablancas and featuring guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr., bassist Nikolai Fraiture, and drummer Fabrizio Moretti—shifted into a more selective performance schedule. Rather than undertaking traditional full-length tours, The Strokes have largely focused on festival appearances and high-demand standalone shows, a strategy that has made their live outings feel more like special events than routine tour stops. Performances in 2024 and 2025 included major international festivals and curated appearances, often selling out quickly and maintaining their reputation for tight, energetic sets anchored by classics like “Reptilia,” “Someday,” and “Last Nite.”
At the same time, the band has continued to operate at a measured pace creatively following the success of their 2020 comeback album The New Abnormal, which revitalized their critical standing and earned a Grammy Award. While new material has been discussed and intermittently worked on, the group has remained characteristically deliberate about releases, balancing individual members’ side projects—particularly Casablancas’ work with The Voidz—with intermittent Strokes activity. This approach has contributed to the band’s modern identity: less a constantly touring unit and more a legacy act that reappears for major cultural moments.
By 2026, The Strokes continue to command top billing at major festivals such as Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival and other international events, underscoring their sustained influence more than two decades after their breakthrough. Their evolution from scrappy Lower East Side upstarts to selectively active global headliners reflects both the longevity of their catalog and their ability to adapt to a modern music landscape where scarcity and legacy can be as powerful as constant output.
