Farrell got into a heated exchange with guitarist Dave Navarro during the band’s show in Boston last year

After an on-stage incident last year with guitarist Dave Navarro, Jane’s Addiction frontman Perry Farrell has issued a public apology. Perry states that he “reflected” on it, and is “truly sorry to everyone who was impacted. Subsequently, Jane’s Addiction issued a collective statement, confirming that they have disbanded.
“Today we are here to announce that we have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane’s Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together. We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors. Jane’s Addiction will forever live in our hearts. We are so proud of the music we’ve created together.”

Last fall, Jane’s Addiction experienced perhaps the most dramatic and destabilizing moment in its four-decade history when frontman Perry Farrell and guitarist Dave Navarro were involved in a physical altercation onstage during a concert in Boston, Massachusetts. The incident didn’t just make headlines—it ultimately led to the cancellation of the band’s highly anticipated reunion tour, extensive legal battles among the members, and the official breakup of the group in late 2025.
The concert in question took place on September 13, 2024, at Leader Bank Pavilion as part of a long-rumored reunion tour featuring the classic lineup of Farrell, Navarro, bassist Eric Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins, who had released new music together for the first time in decades. Tensions had reportedly been simmering on the tour, and during the Boston show the atmosphere suddenly turned volatile. Mid-performance, Farrell and Navarro collided in what quickly escalated: Farrell shoved and then struck Navarro, prompting crew members and bandmates to intervene and restrain him, and bringing the show to an abrupt halt.
Eyewitness accounts and later reporting suggested that Farrell was visibly struggling during the performance—missed vocals and increasing agitation were noted before the physical confrontation. According to his wife’s remarks in the aftermath, Farrell was suffering from health issues including tinnitus and a sore throat, and felt his vocals were being drowned out by the band, adding to his frustration.
In the immediate aftermath, Jane’s Addiction posted an apology and announced the cancellation of the next scheduled show. Within days, the remainder of the tour was called off as the band stated they would “take some time away as a group.” The other three members later released a joint statement attributing the decision to Farrell’s behavior and concerns over his mental health, prompting public speculation about the band’s future. Farrell, for his part, also issued an apology at the time, calling his conduct “inexcusable.”

The fallout continued well into this year. Back in July, Navarro, Avery, and Perkins filed a $10 million lawsuit against Farrell, accusing him of assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract—claiming significant financial losses from the tour’s cancellation and the halted progress on new material. Farrell responded with a countersuit alleging harassment by his bandmates and disputing their characterization of his health and behavior.
For Navarro, the incident marked an especially bitter end to what should have been a triumphant reunion. In interviews he later described that night in Boston as one of the lowest points of his career, and publicly stated there was “no chance” the band would ever play together again following the altercation.
The on-stage incident in Boston thus became a defining moment that not only ended a concert prematurely but brought about the dissolution of a band that had been a cornerstone of alternative rock since the mid-1980s. It highlighted deep fractures within the group, sparked contentious legal disputes, and ultimately closed the book on Jane’s Addiction’s storied career—leaving behind a complicated legacy marked by both groundbreaking music and a very public unraveling.
