The band has added headlining shows across the United States
Baroness have added a string of new summer tour dates. The band will be hitting several markets across the U.S. starting on May 31 at the State Theatre in Portland, Maine. Later this summer, the group will head overseas for a string of festival performances and select headlining shows. Check out the full tour itinerary below.
“We are gearing up for our first big summer tour in the U.S. in five years, and we’re incredibly exciting to be playing so many cities that we have never played before, and returning to so many that we haven’t spent nearly enough time visiting. Come out and join us! ‘Till the wheels fall off.”
Tickets for the newly announced U.S. dates are on-sale this Friday, April 26, at 10am local time. The band is also offering a Stone pre-show experience, which includes one general admission ticket, a three-song pre-show acoustic performance, one exclusive art print (printed by Nightswim), a Baroness vinyl slipmat cover, commemorative VIP laminate, the ability to have two Baroness items signed, and early entry to the venue, as well as a dedicated VIP host.
Next month, Baroness and Red Fang are playing five special co-headlining shows, bringing back-to-back sets from two of heavy music’s most beloved bands, for the first time ever. The exclusive run starts on May 13 at The Ramkat in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
“It will be great to get out and play some shows with our old friends in Red Fang,” Baroness collectively shared. “Surprisingly, we’ve never properly toured together, so we’re all excited to bring these shows to you this spring. Furthermore, it will be great to have another opportunity to support and perform songs from our latest record, Stone, with you!”
Baroness are still touring in support of their latest LP, Stone, which arrived last September. The record peaked at No. 5 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart, and cracked the Billboard 200 in the U.S. The album was well-received by fans and critics alike.
“An important through line in Baroness is we don’t like to repeat ourselves,” frontman John Baizley explains. “It’s all about the willingness to take risks. When I was younger, the whole point of music was to be different, not to do the same thing, and not to listen to parents or play by the rules. That’s kind of goofy, but in practice, it works. It’s really sort of terrifying to be at the sixth record in your career and think that you’ll have to keep up with your history rather than continually invent. So, we doubled down on continuously inventing to see where it takes us. I think this record is a good reflection of that. STONE is a lot more alive, more direct.”
This time around, Baroness decided to self-produce their album. They spent a month shrouded amidst the pines of Barryville, New York, holed up in a vacation rental that became an impromptu recording space replete with big, vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, as well as brick and glass walls. While they wrote Stone, Baizley recorded and pre-mixed it in real time, giving each song the album its own sonic treatment. After the group finished tracking drums, guitars, and bass, they took everything back to Baizley’s basement studio to record vocals before handing the album off to mix master Joe Barresi (Tool, Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold) and mastering guru Bob Ludwig (Led Zeppelin, Nirvana).
“The recording process was completely self-contained,” adds Sebastian Thomsen. “Having just the four of us in a rented house in the mountains for a month resulted in not only a cohesive and authentic sound, but also an intense collective mentality.”
“I think we were able to strip everything away on this record,” Gina Gleason shares. “We were unified in that. So, we just jumped in and did our best. That felt really good. It was a really cool, empowering, creative experience.”
