The comedian wore a Spinal Tap hat as a nod to Reiner’s 1984 directorial debut

Last night at the Golden Globes, host Nikki Glaser paid tribute to late filmmaker Rob Reiner. She took the stage wearing a Spinal Tap hat, a nod to Reiner’s 1984 directorial debut of cult classic ‘This Is Spinal Tap’ – a mockumentary comedy about a famous fictional hard rock band.
“Well, that’s our show,” Glaser said. “This one went to 11.”
The line was a nod to actor Christopher Guest’s famous quote from the film about Spinal Tap turning their amps up to 11 for more volume: “These go to 11.”
Tragically, Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, were found murdered in their Brentwood home last month.
Rob Reiner was one of the most influential figures in modern American film and television. After first achieving fame in the 1970s as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family—a role that earned him two Primetime Emmy Awards—he reinvented himself in the 1980s as a director of some of the era’s most enduring films. His directing credits include the mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap (1984), the Stephen King adaptation Stand by Me(1986), the fantasy classic The Princess Bride (1987), the romantic comedy landmark When Harry Met Sally… (1989), the thriller Misery (1990), and the courtroom drama A Few Good Men (1992), among many others. In 2025, he released Spinal Tap II: The End Continues, a sequel to This Is Spinal Tap that would ultimately stand as his final film.
Michele Singer was a photographer and producer. The couple met while he was directing When Harry Met Sally…; their relationship famously inspired Reiner to change the film’s ending so that the lead characters end up together. They married in 1989 and had three children together—Jake, Nick, and Romy—while Rob also remained close to Tracy Reiner, the daughter he adopted during his earlier marriage to filmmaker Penny Marshall.
