Alternative rock mainstays Counting Crows have announced a world tour with very special guests Toad The Wet Sprocket. The 1989 World Tour will start in North American this summer and take the bands around the world well into 2015. Additional dates are set to be announced in the coming weeks. The summer North American run kicks off on May 16 at the Black-Eyed Susan Concert in Baltimore, MD and wraps up on August 17 at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, CA. Counting Crows will have new music to tour on, as the band will be releasing a brand new studio album this fall. “We spent the fall writing songs in New York, and we spent the winter recording them out in Berkeley. We finished a new album of all new songs, and we’re looking forward to getting out on the road and playing them,” said Counting Crows vocalist Adam Duritz. “Come out and see us – we’re excited about this.” This new record will be first Counting Crows studio effort since 2008’s Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200.
Toad The Wet Sprocket will be providing special support for the tour. The band is celebrating the 25th anniversary of their first LP, Bread & Circus, along with the release of their most recent LP, New Constellation. “We’re honored to be on the road with Counting Crows on the summer of our 25th anniversary. We recently released New Constellation, our first album in 16 years. Adam Duritz is partially responsible – five years after we broke up, he asked us to reform and play a few shows opening for Counting Crows,” said lead vocalist/guitarist Glen Phillips. “That tour was the first crack in the ice, and now we are back together, touring again with the band that first encouraged us to give it another go.” Toad The Wet Sprocket’s latest studio effort, 2013’s New Constellation, hit #97 on the Billboard Top 200. We can only wonder if on this tour, the band will be playing their debut album in-full for it’s anniversary. – by Matt Bishop
