Architects have announced the departure of guitarist Josh Middleton. The metalcore juggernauts made the news public on their social media Sunday. The band wrapped up a brief run with Metallica in Europe with a performance at Volksparkstadion in Hamburg, Denmark on May 26.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce Josh’s time in the band has come to an end,” the group said. “It has gradually become apparent that we need to go our separate ways, but we remain close friends. Josh was a life raft for the band after we lost Tom [Searle] and he gave us a way to keep the band alive through the hardest experience of our lives. We will always be grateful to him for that. We wish him the best in his future endeavors and we suggest that everyone keeps an eye out for the new Sylosis record later this year.”

Middleton joined Architects in 2017. He stepped in for founding member and principle songwriter Tom Searle, who passed away the previous year after a long battle with skin cancer. He played lead guitar and served as a producer on the band’s last three studio albums – 2018’s Holy Hell, 2021’s For Those That Wish to Exists, and 2022’s Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit.

Architects will rejoin Metallica next summer for more shows across Europe as part of the latter band’s M72 World Tour.
