Backstage at Orion Music + More Festival, I caught up with death metal juggernauts The Black Dahlia Murder. The guys claimed that it really took some arm-twisting by Lars (Ulrich, Metallica) to come and play at Orion, and Lars even flew out to see the guys to convince them to take part in the festival. In all seriousness, the band was very honored by the invitation and willingly accepted!
The band’s latest album, Ritual, peaked at #31 on the Billboard Top 200. Four of the band’s five studio albums have charted in the Billboard Top 200. Ritual finds the band reinventing the death metal wheel a bit, incorporating elements of old school thrash, grindcore, and heavy metal. It’s the band’s most well-rounded and diverse collection of songs. Post-Orion, the band is headed over to Europe for more festival dates, after which they intended to start writing music for their next record. CRANK IT UP!
