The couple tied the knot at their home in Los Angeles
Rocker Andrew W.K. and actor Kat Dennings are officially married. The couple tied the knot at Los Angeles home on November 27. For the ceremony, Dennings donned a vintage Alexander McQueen gown. Check out photos from the couple’s special day below, by Jose Villa of Vogue.
The couple met under “mystical circumstances,” they say. They knew of each other professionally for years, and eventually met in person. “It quickly became obvious that we were made for each other,” Dennings told Vogue. “About three years ago, Andrew had come to visit me for the first time. At the end of his trip, we couldn’t imagine ever separating. We actually proposed to each other in the kitchen at the exact same moment.”
The wedding was held on November 27. The intimate ceremony took place in the back garden of their home. They considered throwing a big, traditional wedding, or even eloping. “But in the end, the kitchen engagement moment kept calling back to us,” Dennings explains. “We realized that a small home wedding was too cozy to resist. Plus, all our stuff was there so we wouldn’t have to pack anything.”
Instead of hiring a wedding planner and making a big deal out of their nuptials, the couple decided to keep it simple and plan the entire ceremony themselves.
“I wanted our wedding to feel completely different from an ‘industry event’ in every way,” Kat said. “I even handmade all of our wedding florals, aisle pieces, and our ceremony arch, which took three entire days. I wanted to be hands-on with the entire experience and feel like we had built our moment together from scratch.”
Andrew W.K. exploded onto the scene in 2001 with his debut album, I Get Wet. The record included the hits “It’s Time to Party,” “She Is Beautiful,” and “Fun Night.” The lead single, “Party Hard,” became a massive hit and Andrew’s watershed anthem. In the summer of 2002, Andrew joined the Ozzfest bill along with Ozzy Osbourne, System of a Down, Rob Zombie, and more. In 2013, Andrew served as the special guest for Black Sabbath on their North American tour, performing a DJ set. He released his sixth studio album, God Is Partying, in September of 2021 through Napalm Records.
Kat Dennings made her acting debut in 2000 in an episode of HBO’s Sex and the City. In 2001, she landed a lead role in The WB sitcom, Raising Dad. She starred alongside the late Bob Saget (Full House), and future fellow Marvel mainstay, Brie Larson (Captain Marvel, Avengers: Endgame, Fast X). Dennings found success in a supporting role in the hit comedy, The 40-Year Old Virgin in 2005, and starred in Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist in 2008.
In 2011, Dennings enjoyed her breakout year. She landed a starring role on the smash hit CBS sitcom, 2 Broke Girls. Over the course of six seasons, the show garnered multiple Emmy and People’s Choice nominations, winning one of each. She also appeared in the Marvel hit, Thor, as Darcy Lewis. She would reprise the role in 2013’s Thor: The Dark World, and the Marvel series, WandaVision, in 2021, and 2022’s Thor: Love and Thunder.
