A Fist In The Air Represents Rebellion: Interview with Chris Kael of Five Finger Death Punch
As the sun began to set in Carolina on Saturday, the mosh pits began to pick up as Five Finger Death Punch took the stage at Carolina Rebellion. You could barely see through the dust being kicked up by fans thrashing wildly in the pit. Five Finger Death Punch showed no mercy, playing a blistering and brutal set. It was without a doubt the most intense and unrelenting 60 minutes of the day. They guys pulled out all the hits, playing songs from all 3 albums. Half-way through their set, 5FDP took a few minutes to pay tribute to some metal godfathers, with a quick Pantera/Ozzy Osbourne medley that led into their heavy cover of Bad Company’s legendary self-titled track, “Bad Company.”
Prior to ‘burning it down,’ I got a chance to catch up with 5FDP bassist Chris Kael. We talked about the band’s latest record, American Capitalist, and how it’s been incorporating the new songs into their setlist. Chris also told me that he and guys are absolutely stoked about their headlining slot on one of the country’s biggest summer tours: Trespass America Festival. He also told me how much 5FDP loves hitting the festival circuit, and how psyched they were to be apart of this year’s Carolina Rebellion.
Five Finger Death Punch exploded on to the scene in 2005. They hit the mainstream in 2007 with their sophomore effort, War Is The Answer, which hit #7 on the Billboard Top 200. The band toured relentlessly that year, headlining their own Shock and Raw U.S. Tour. In 2010 they supported Godsmack on their Oracle Tour, and played the main stage at Mayhem Festival alongside Lamb of God, Rob Zombie, and fellow Rebellioneers Korn. 5FDP is still touring hard in support of their third album, 2011’s American Capitalist, which debuted at #3 on the Billboard Top 200. The guys will be bringing the brutality to Rock On The Range 2012 in less than two weeks, and then headlining the Trespass America Festival all summer long with Killswitch Engage, Trivium, God Forbid, Pop Evil, and more.
