The band gave fans a special Christmas present ahead of a big year in 2024
It’s a Christmas Miracle for fans of The Killers.
On December 25, the band gave fans a special holiday surprise with the release of a brand new song. The single “We Did It In the Name of Love” is a guitar-driven track, with hints of goth and new wave. Stream the official audio below now.
“Santa’s got a brand new song in his bag,” the band said on social media. “Merry Christmas!”
Earlier this month, The Killers released their new greatest hits compilation, “Rebel Diamonds,” which featured another new song called “Spirit.”
The all-new track follows the single, “Your Side of Town,“ which came out back in August through their label, Island Records. Written by frontman Brandon Flowers, and the track was produced by The Killers, alongside Stuart Price and Shawn Everett. The previously released “boy” arrived last year. The song was written before Pressure Machine and, Flowers confirms, the themes explored in the lyrics actually led him on the path to writing and recording that album.
“This was the first song written after we had to cancel the Imploding The Mirage Tour due to the pandemic,” Flowers elaborates. “I had recently moved back to Utah and started to make trips to Nephi, where I grew up. I found that the place I had wanted to get away from so desperately at 16 was now a place that I couldn’t stop returning to. I have a son approaching the age I was at that time in my life. With “boy,” I want to reach out and tell myself – and my sons – to not overthink it. And to look for the “white arrows” in their lives. For me now, white arrows are my wife, children, my songs and the stage.”
Earlier this year, The Killers headlined the Reading and Leeds Festivals in the UK, Sea Hear Now in New Jersey, Bourbon & Beyond in Kentucky, Ohana Festival in California, Life Is Beautiful in their hometown of Las Vegas, and a special performance at the Formula1 Austin Grand Prix.
The Killers released their sixth studio album Imploding The Mirage back in August of 2020. Despite having to cancel the supporting tour, the album performed well. It peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Billboard Top Rock Albums chart. With live music at a standstill, the band uncharacteristically wasted no time getting to work on the follow-up. The result was Pressure Machine, which arrived almost exactly a year later to the day on August 13, 2021, and once again gave the group the top spot on the Rock Albums chart.
The band’s massive Imploding the Mirage Tour wrapped up last October.
