Dream Theater took home the top Metal prize

Last night at the GRAMMY® Awards, Foo Fighters dominated in a bittersweet sweep of the Rock categories. Dream Theater took home the top Metal prize while guitar virtuoso St. Vincent garnered the gold for Best Alternative Music Album. See the complete list of rock, metal and alternative winners below.

Sadly, Foo Fighters were not on hand to celebrate their GRAMMY® wins due to the untimely passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins on March 26.

“Wow, this is absolutely insane,” Dream Theater guitarist John Petrucci said while accepting the award for Best Metal Performance. “On behalf of the entire band, I’d like to thank the Recording Academy and everybody who voted for us. You know, they used to tell us our songs were way too long, we used weird time signatures and there were too many guitar solos. In fact, this song is in 17/8, so try to tap your foot to it. But, we just won a Grammy, so I’m glad we didn’t listen. All the Dream Theater fans around the world, you guys rock! We love you. For fans of prog and prog metal, stay true to your art — it’s alive and well.”

This trophy marks the third GRAMMY® win for St. Vincent, aka Annie Clark. She previously garnered the award for Best Alternative Music Album in 2015 for St. Vincent. She won Best Rock Song in 2019 for “Masseduction.”
