Each night will feature John performing solo, with a full band, and with the John Mayer Trio
John Mayer is making his way back to Sphere next year. The guitar guru, who previously played at the state-of the-art venue with Dead & Company in 2024 and 2025, is returning on his own next spring. Dubbed John Mayer Live at Sphere, the run is scheduled for April 8, 10, 11, 15, 17 and 18, 2027, with each concert beginning at 8pm sharp. Rather than building the production around a single configuration, Mayer will divide each evening into three distinct forms of performance: solo, with his full band, and with the John Mayer Trio. Sphere describes the concerts as combining immersive sound, visual spectacle and sensory elements, giving Mayer an enormous technological canvas on which to revisit a catalog that now stretches across more than 25 years.
The residency represents Mayer’s first Sphere run as a solo headliner, but he is certainly no stranger to the building. As a member of Dead & Company, Mayer performed extensively at Sphere during the group’s Dead Forever residencies in 2024 and 2025. This time, however, the focus will be entirely on Mayer’s own catalog, and the format appears designed to reflect the different musical identities he has explored throughout his career. Each of the six concerts will contain all three configurations, rather than individual nights being assigned to solo, band or Trio performances. The solo portion is expected to emphasize the stripped-down approach Mayer explored on his recent solo tours, with acoustic guitar at the center while also incorporating piano and electric guitar. That setting gives him an opportunity to present songs in their most intimate form, potentially drawing from everything from “Daughters” and “Stop This Train” to “Born and Raised,” “You’re Gonna Live Forever in Me” and other material that lends itself to minimal arrangements.
The full-band portion will allow Mayer to move to the opposite end of the spectrum, presenting his songs with the larger arrangements associated with his traditional tours. Although complete personnel and set-list details have not yet been announced, the format opens the door for the pop, rock, soul and blues sides of his catalog to be represented with a full ensemble. Songs such as “Waiting on the World to Change,” “Gravity,” “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room,” “New Light” and material from 2021’s Sob Rock could take on an entirely different dimension inside Sphere, where the venue’s wraparound LED display and immersive audio system can turn a conventional band performance into a much larger audiovisual production. Sphere also notes that its concerts can incorporate effects including seat haptics, movement sensations, atmospheric effects and intense visual elements, although exactly which of those technologies Mayer’s production will employ has not yet been revealed.
Perhaps the biggest attraction for longtime fans will be the return of the John Mayer Trio, reuniting Mayer with bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Steve Jordan. Mayer formed the Trio with Palladino and Jordan in 2005, using the stripped-down power-trio setting to dive much deeper into blues, rock and extended guitar playing. The group released the live album Try! that year, while Jordan and Palladino subsequently became central contributors to Mayer’s 2006 album Continuum. Bringing the Trio into the Sphere shows means fans will essentially get three versions of Mayer during the same concert: the intimate singer-songwriter performing alone, the arena-level solo artist backed by a complete band, and the blues guitarist working within one of the most celebrated musical lineups of his career. The three-stage concept also recalls Mayer’s acclaimed 2008 concert film and live album Where the Light Is: John Mayer Live in Los Angeles, which similarly divided a single concert into acoustic, Trio and full-band sections. Mayer appeared to acknowledge that connection when announcing the Sphere dates with the phrase, “Meet me where the light is.”
Tickets will be released through several stages. Fans can register now for the artist presale through Mayer’s official website, with the artist presale beginning Wednesday, October 7 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. A SiriusXM listener presalefollows on Thursday, October 8, with access information available through SiriusXM’s Life with John Mayer channel. The general public on-sale begins Friday, October 9 at 10 a.m. PT through Ticketmaster. Tickets have been announced as starting at $129, with availability and pricing subject to change. Ticketmaster lists an eight-ticket overall limit for the events. Fans can register through John Mayer’s official website and purchase general-sale tickets through Ticketmaster.
Fans looking for an upgraded experience will have additional options before the standard artist presale. VIP packages and concert-and-hotel packages go on sale Wednesday, September 30 at 10 a.m. PT. Select VIP packages include premium seating, exclusive merchandise and a date-specific lithograph signed by Mayer, while travel packages through Vibee pair concert admission with a two-night stay at The Venetian Resort Las Vegas. One dollar from every ticket sold will benefit Mayer’s Back To You Fund, while a limited number of tickets for each performance will be auctioned separately, with 100 percent of those auction proceeds benefiting the Heart and Armor Foundation, the veterans’ health organization Mayer co-founded.
The six-night residency therefore looks less like a conventional collection of Las Vegas concerts and more like a career-spanning presentation specifically designed for Sphere. Mayer has spent much of his career moving comfortably between pop songwriting, acoustic singer-songwriter material, blues, improvisational rock and virtuoso guitar playing, and the three-performance format gives him an opportunity to put those musical personalities alongside one another during the same evening. Add in the return of Palladino and Jordan as the John Mayer Trio and the possibilities offered by Sphere’s massive visual environment, and John Mayer Live at Sphere is being positioned as something considerably more ambitious than simply adapting one of Mayer’s regular touring shows for Las Vegas. Across six performances from April 8 through April 18, 2027, fans will effectively see three different versions of John Mayer in one concert — solo performer, full-band frontman and blues-guitar powerhouse — presented through a venue capable of giving each one its own distinct visual and sonic world.
