The trio debuted the track at a festival in Quebec City
Green Day have seemingly revealed a brand new song. While performing at Plaines d’Abraham in Quebec City, Canada, the trio gave the new piece of material its live debut. Check out the video footage below.
“This song is called 1981,” frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said to the crowd before launching into the song. With a very vintage Green Day sound, Armstrong roars, “She’s gonna bang her head like 1981” during the no frills punk rocker. Whatever this is, it sounds promising.
Green Day’s last studio effort was 2020’s Father of All Motherfuckers. The record featured four singles, including the title track. Produced by Butch Walker (Weezer, Fall Out Boy, Sevendust) and Chris Dugan (Alan’s Morissette, Weezer, Iggy Pop), the disc debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. In 2021, the band released the live album BBC Sessions.
Green Day are currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of their seminal album Nimrod. To commemorate the record, they released a special 52-song edition featuring the original album, demos, and live tracks. The original album has since been certified double platinum by the RIAA.
This fall, the band is slated to headline the second annual When We Were Young festival alongside blink-182 on Saturday, October 21 in Las Vegas.
