Thrash metal legends Exodus have unleashed the lyric video for their new single “Salt The Wound”. The track features a very special guest appearance by former guitarist and current Metallica axman Kirk Hammett. “It felt really casual, really cool; just like it did back in 1980 when we were all just hanging out back in the day,” Hammett told our friends at Rolling Stone. “Me, recording a solo on their album was a huge thing for me. Other than the Exodus demo that’s been heard by a lot of people, it’s the only time I ever recorded with Exodus. It was a huge thing for me.” Kirk continued to elaborate on the guitar solo, stating, “I play a pretty cool solo, and then Gary [Holt, lead guitar] comes in and plays another solo, and you know what? I listened to that and thought, ‘Wow, it’s 1982 all over again and here we are, Gary and I are trying to cut each other’s heads off with our guitar solos.’ Nothing has changed much in the last 30 years. I love it. I love those guys. I’ve only known them for most of my life, so I’m really happy that I finally got to record with them.”
Exodus are set to release their tenth studio album Blood In, Blood Out on October 14 via Nuclear Blast Records. This fall, the band will embark on a North American Tour with Bay Area comrades Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies. The trek kicks off on November 12 at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, CA and wraps up on December 5 at The Fillmore in Detroit, MI. “This monumental tour is a heavy metal collision of epic proportions,” Exodus vocalist Steve ‘Zetro’ Souza says of the tour. “For my first tour back with Exodus, I’m beyond excited to be on the road with my brothers in true thrash metal! I’m also looking forward to meeting and hanging out with all of the fans on this heavy as hell tour.” Throughout their career, Exodus have sold over 5 million albums worldwide and are largely considered to be founding fathers of thrash metal along with Metallica, Slayer, Testament, Anthrax, Overkill, and others. – by Matt Bishop
