The two storied acts also have some history together. Back in 2007, Avenged Sevenfold vocalist M. Shadows and guitarist Synyster Gates made special guest appearances on Good Charlotte’s single “The River.” The track was featured on the band’s album Good Morning Revival. This past June, the single and the album were both certified gold by the RIAA for 500,000 units sold each.
Avenged Sevenfold released The Stage on October 28, 2016 through Capitol Records. The title track served as the album’s lead single, and became a big hit. The album performed well commercially, taking the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top Rock, Top Hard Rock, and Alternative albums charts while peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. Good Charlotte released Youth Authority on July 15, 2016 through their own label, MDDN. The record produced four singles – “Makeshift Love,” “40 oz. Dream,” “Life Changes,” and “Life Can’t Get Much Better.” It peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard 200 and No. 4 on Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart. Across the pond, the album hit No. 13 on the UK Albums chart.
Last week, Avenged Sevenfold are back with a brand new song called “Magic.” They composed the track as a contribution to the soundtrack for the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 video game that was released back on November 14. Stream the official VR 360-degree video for “Magic” HERE.
This past summer, Avenged Sevenfold embarked on a European tour. The heavy metal titans are set to headline some “stunning, unique venues.” The trek launched on 7 June in Athens, Greece and wrapped up on 29 June in Rättvik, Sweden.
“Europe, we told you we’d be back for more,” the band said at the time. “We are looking forward to playing some new countries we’ve never been to before in some stunning unique venues. Everything from a historical prison in Lithuania, to a gorgeous limestone quarry in Sweden – we can’t wait to have a special evening together.”
Avenged Sevenfold’s eighth studio album Live Is But a Dream was released in June of 2023.
On May 12, 2023, Avenged Sevenfold announced a surprise show at Area 15 A-Lot in Las Vegas. They followed that performance up with two record release shows at the KIA Forum in L.A. and Madison Square Garden in New York City. The arena concerts marked Avenged Sevenfold’s first proper New York City appearance since 2007 and their first Los Angeles county headline on sale since 2009.
Over the last three years, Avenged Sevenfold performed extensively on their Life Is But a Dream Tour. After two successful tour legs that ran through last summer and fall, A7X decided to extend their touring itinerary into 2024. The new trek kicked off on March 6 at the KeyBank Arena in Buffalo, New York, and it will wrap up on March 31 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. Very special guests for the trek were Poppy and Sullivan King. The band went on to headline Download Festival in the UK, Copenhell in Denmark, Graspop Metal Meeting in Belgium, Evil Live in Portugal, Nova Rock in Austria, Rock am Ring/Rock im Park in Germany, and the stacked 2024 Hellfest lineup alongside Metallica, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, and more.
To date, Avenged Sevenfold have sold over 10 million albums worldwide and earned two consecutive No. 1 albums on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart (2010’s Nightmare and 2013’s Hail To The King) to go along with over a billion video views and a billion-plus Spotify streams, as well as multiple No. 1 singles on rock radio. The band are equally known for their spectacular live shows, selling out arenas and headlining the world’s most prestigious rock festivals.

After a relatively quiet few years following their 2018 album Generation Rx, Good Charlotte spent the early 2020s largely out of the mainstream spotlight. By 2023, however, a reunion spark emerged — during a private gig at a friend’s wedding in France, the band found renewed enthusiasm for writing and performing together again.
That spark led to a full-fledged comeback. In June 2025 the band announced their eighth studio album, Motel Du Cap, marking their first studio release in seven years. The lead-up included the June 25 release of the single “Rejects”, followed by “Stepper.”
When Motel Du Cap dropped back on August 8, critics and longtime fans noted how the album blended the band’s signature pop-punk energy with new maturity, balancing nostalgia with reflection — drawing on decades of experience while writing from the vantage point of 40-something lives as husbands, fathers, and veterans of the music scene. The record includes collaborations with a diverse set of guest artists, reflecting a broader musical palette than earlier releases.
The album peaked at No. 3 on the UK Rock & Metal Albums chart, and No. 43 on the Billboard 200.
Beyond the music, band members — notably twin brothers Joel Madden and Benji Madden — have spoken about how their priorities have shifted: success is now measured less by chart placement and more by family, legacy, and personal fulfillment. With this new era, Good Charlotte aren’t just re-staging their former glory — they’re embracing a “second act,” intent on making music and connecting with listeners on different terms than during their early-2000s heyday.
Rising from the punk revival in the early-2000s, the Good Charlotte broke through with their 2000 self-titled debut and achieved massive mainstream success with The Young and the Hopeless (2002), which spawned hits like “Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous,” “The Anthem,” and “Girls & Boys.” Across their career, Good Charlotte released seven studio albums—Good Charlotte (2000), The Young and the Hopeless (2002), The Chronicles of Life and Death (2004), Good Morning Revival(2007), Cardiology (2010), Youth Authority (2016), and Generation Rx (2018)—selling more than 11 million albums worldwide.
Known for blending pop-punk energy with emotional themes of youth, angst, and perseverance, the band influenced a generation of alternative acts and remained a staple of 2000s rock culture. Over the years, Good Charlotte earned multiple accolades, including MTV Video Music Awards, Kerrang! Awards, and NRJ Music Awards, reflecting both their commercial impact and enduring fan loyalty. After a hiatus from 2011–2015, they returned to touring and recording with a renewed focus on independence and artist mentorship, cementing their legacy as one of the defining pop-punk bands of their era.
