To celebrate a nation of patriotism and rock ‘n’ roll, American’s Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band – Aerosmith – performed live last night in the streets of their hometown of Boston, MA on the eve of one of the most important Presidential elections in recent memory. And, as I sit here writing this article, “Dream On” just came on the radio here in the Rock Revival Offices. Must be a sign! Now, where was I…oh, right. Aerosmith. Live. Boston. EPIC. The band performed not just in Boston, but at 1325 Commonwealth Avenue, the apartment where the band lived and wrote their first hit songs in the early ’70s. “So many songs came to life at 1325 Commonwealth Ave. It will always be close to our hearts and souls. It is a true honor to have this historic plaque placed for people to enjoy and embrace the early days of this incredible journey–rock on!” said guitarist Brad Whitford.
Fan attendance was in the tens of thousands as the band played a set spanning their entire legendary catalog. Aerosmith opened with the rarity “Movin’ On” from their self-titled debut album, and closed with their massive hit “Train Kept A Rollin'”. In between, the band sprinkled in the hits along with songs from their new album, Music From Another Dimension. Specifically from the new record, Aerosmith played the song “Freedom Fighter”, and urged fans to get out to the polls today and vote. “Anyone who votes is a Freedom Fighter,” says Joe Perry. The concert was exclusively broadcast live by AXS TV with an encore presentation of the event in full in prime time at 9:00 PM ET/6:00 PM PT.
Aerosmith are indeed the greatest American rock ‘n’ roll band in history, having sold over 150 million albums worldwide. They are the recipients of countless awards including 4 Grammy Awards, 8 American Music Awards, 6 Billboard Awards, 12 MTV Video Music Awards, and the MTV “Icon” Award in 2002. The band has 11 multi-platinum albums to their name, and 21 Top 40 Billboard Singles. In 2001, Aerosmith were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Yesterday, their first apartment was recognized as a historical landmark in Boston. A plaque marker was placed in front of the building commemorating the “Aerosmith Apartment” and was presented by the Music Museum Of New England as part of its Boston Music TrailTM, a series of markers at sites of musical significance around the city, made possible in part by a grant from the Music Drives Us Foundation. The mission of the Museum is to preserve, honor and showcase New England’s musical heritage. It is building an online archive at mmone.org.
Today, Aerosmith released their 15th studio album, Music From Another Dimension, via Columbia Records. It’s the band’s long-awaited follow-up to 2001’s Just Push Play, which hit #2 on the Billboard Top 200 and was certified platinum. In 2004, Aerosmith released a blues cover album Honkin’ On Bobo, that featured one original song. Their new album was recorded in Los Angeles and at the band’s studio in Massachusetts, and was produced by Jack Douglas, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, with the exception of three tracks produced by Tyler and Marti Frederiksen. The album’s lead single, “Legendary Child”, has been blowing up rock radio since May. In the wake of the album’s release, the band will embark on the second leg of their Global Warming Tour with special guests Cheap Trick.
