On the first day of the Orion Music + More Festival, I got a chance to sat down with John Sherman, drummer of Red Fang. The band has been busy the last year and a half, touring non-stop with stints at last year’s Mayhem Festival and most recently supporting Mastodon in Europe with The Dillinger Escape Plan. This run culminated at Orion Festival on Saturday.
When I asked John about what it was like to be apart of the festival, he replied, “We’re pretty excited man, it’s a gnarly event […] and of course we got Metallica doing Ride The Lightning tonight, which is my personal favorite Metallica album. That one changed my life.” In regards to the band’s upcoming record, John stated, “There’s short, really metal kinda songs and theirs some long, drawn out doomy kinda stuff.”
After Orion, the band is going back over to Europe for more festivals and headlining dates, and then heading out this fall with Black Tusk back in the U.S.A. Red Fang are nearing completion of their third studio LP, which should drop closer to Christmas 2012. The band also just re-released it’s second album, Murder The Mountains, on a special vinyl picture disc that I’m sure all the fans will get a kick out of! So grab a copy in the meantime and CRANK IT UP! – by Matt Bishop
