It WAS done at Orion Music + More Festival as Rhode Island thrashers Thy Will Be Done got the afternoon circle-pits going at the Damage, Inc. stage on Sunday. The band set the tone for the day and delivered a killer set worthy of Orion Festival. Later on, I caught up with frontman J. Costa backstage to talk about the band’s set and more. When talking about what it was like to be personally invited by Metallica to play at Orion, J. said, “It’s absolutely surreal. Emotional. It’s hard to put into words. If it weren’t for Metallica, I don’t know if we’d even be a band.” J. and I also discussed the band’s upcoming new material, and the central themes that inspired his writing process.
Judging from what J. told me, it’s going to be a very tough, deep record. Thy Will Be Done are still touring off their latest album, 2011’s In Ancient of Days, which produced the hit single, “And Fire Will Fall.” The band just released a new single, “You, The Apathy Devine,” almost a month ago. The single is off the band’s new EP, which is due out in August. The EP will serve as an introduction to the band’s next full-length LP, which should be out sometime in the Spring of 2013. After a short run in Japan, Thy Will Be Done will be headlining Ride For Dime in Philadelphia, PA on July 21.
