The two acts toured together back in 2019
Seminal rockers Stone Temple Pilots are back out on the road with their first trek since the music business came back to life. The band had an acoustic tour planned for February 2020, which they postponed due to frontman Jeff Gutt having back surgery. Little did they know, they would have to postpone all touring plans for much longer. Now, the band is out on their first headlining tour since 2019.
Last night at XL Live in Harrisburg, STP thrilled a capacity crowd with a hit-filled set.
Highly-touted rock outfit Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown kicked things off. The band is touring in support of their latest album Pressure which came out just over a year ago.
They started their set with the title track from their latest LP. Highlights included “On To The Next, “Ride,” and “House on Fire.” They wrapped things up with an extended jam of their hit single “Lipstick Wonder Woman.”
Bryant and his Shakedown comrades have established themselves is one of the premiere rock bands today. Their sizzling riffs have set them apart from watered-down radio rock. Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown continue to serve as ambassadors for this generation of rock bands.
Stone Temple Pilots ripped through a greatest hits set that would leave even the most hardcore fans satisfied. They kicked things off with their banger “Wicked Garden” and rolled right into their classic track “Vasoline.” Other heavy hitters included “Silvergun Superman,” “Down,” “Crackerman,” “Meatplow,” and “Dead & Bloated.”
Other highlights included “Big Empty,” “Plush,” “Big Bang Baby,” “Interstate Love Song,” and more. They wrapped things up with “Trippin’ on a Hole in a Paper Heart.” It’s actually near impossible to pick the highlights from an STP show nowadays.
Not ones to live in the past too much, the band pulled out two tracks from their self-titled 2018 outing. It was the band’s first album with Jeff Gutt. They performed “Meadow” and “Roll Me Under” from the record.
They returned to the stage for a two-track encore of “Piece of Pie” and “Sex Type Thing.”
Stone Temple Pilots are undoubtedly one of the great rock bands in history. While their road has been a bit rocky, we’re certainly lucky they’ve decided to forge on. Frontman Jeff Gutt has proven he can fill some very big shoes seamlessly. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of a new era for Stone Temple Pilots.
