Neil and his band were rushed off stage when shots were fired during their set
Vince Neil’s concert at the Oklahoma State Fair on Saturday (September 23) was cut short due to a shooting that took place on the fairgrounds.
Towards the end of their set, the Mötley Crüe singer and his solo band were rushed off the stage when shots broke out just a few hundred feet away from the Chickasaw Country Entertainment Stage where they were performing. Neil and the rest of the band where quickly taken backstage to their dressing rooms. Shots were fired during a heated argument between two groups of people.
“At a concert in Oklahoma City Crazy night last night,” Neil said on X (formerly Twitter). “3/4 of the way thru the set people started running. We we’re told to get in dressing room. There were shooters shooting people. Thank you fans for your understanding.”
He added, “Thankfully we are all okay! Thanks to everyone who came out. Please stay safe!
In a statement, Oklahoma City police Lt. Jeff Cooper said, “One person was shot in the chest after a fight occurred in the Bennett Event Center at the fairgrounds, and one juvenile is in custody in relation to the shooting.”
Cooper also said the shooting was an isolated incident and not an active shooter. Police initially took two suspects into custody, but later released one of them. The other suspect was arrested and charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon.
“There was another incident with another person that had fired off some rounds into the air,” Oklahoma City police Capt. Valerie Littlejohn stated. “We did get two people in custody. We’re trying to determine their involvement. It is believed one of those is the shooter and is the suspect in this incident.”
Scott Munz, a spokesman for the Oklahoma State Fair, said, “It was an isolated incident between two juveniles.”
Vince Neil is currently playing some solo shows after wrapping up a brief Mötley Crüe tour in the U.S. alongside Def Leppard with Alice Cooper last month.
