Pierce The Veil released The Jaws of Life back in February. The band’s first new full-length LP in nearly a decade, it landed at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums chart. The single “Emergency Contact” landed in the Top 5 on alternative radio.
Pierce the Veil is an American rock band hailing from San Diego, California. Founded in 2006 by brothers Vic Fuentes (vocals, guitar) and Mike Fuentes (drums), the band emerged from the dissolution of their previous project, Before Today. The Fuentes brothers decided to continue creating music together and began writing songs that would define the early sound of Pierce the Veil. Their name reflects a concept of breaking through false fronts or superficiality, aligning with their emotionally charged lyrics and energetic performances.
After completing their debut album, the brothers recruited Tony Perry (lead guitar) and Jaime Preciado (bass) to solidify the lineup. This quartet became the band’s definitive roster and gained a devoted fan base for their intricate musicianship and heartfelt lyricism.
Pierce the Veil’s debut album, A Flair for the Dramatic, was released in June 2007 through Equal Vision Records. The album showcased the band’s signature blend of post-hardcore, emo, and progressive rock, with Vic Fuentes’ distinct high-pitched vocals and poetic lyrics at the forefront. Tracks like “Chemical Kids and Mechanical Brides” and “I’d Rather Die Than Be Famous” set the tone for their career, earning them critical acclaim and a burgeoning fan base.
The band’s second album, Selfish Machines, released in 2010, marked a turning point in their career. It featured a more polished production and explored themes of love, loss, and human complexity. Songs like “Caraphernelia,” which featured guest vocals from A Day to Remember’s Jeremy McKinnon, became fan favorites. The album reached No. 1 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, solidifying Pierce the Veil’s place in the post-hardcore scene.
In 2012, Pierce the Veil released Collide with the Sky through Fearless Records, which catapulted them to mainstream success. The album debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard 200 and featured hit singles like “King for a Day” (featuring Kellin Quinn of Sleeping with Sirens) and “Bulls in the Bronx.” “King for a Day” became a genre-defining anthem, with its infectious energy and dramatic music video earning millions of views. The band embarked on extensive tours, including headlining slots on the Vans Warped Tour, further expanding their global fan base.
After a four-year hiatus, Pierce the Veil returned with Misadventures in 2016. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200, showcasing a refined and mature sound. Tracks like “Circles” and “Texas Is Forever” demonstrated their growth as musicians and songwriters, blending catchy hooks with intricate guitar work. The album’s themes of resilience and personal growth resonated deeply with fans.
Following the success of Misadventures, Pierce the Veil entered a period of reduced activity. In 2017, Mike Fuentes faced allegations of misconduct, leading to his departure from the band in 2020. During this period, the remaining members focused on individual projects and songwriting, with fans eagerly awaiting their return.
In 2022, the band announced their comeback with new music and touring plans. Their single “Pass the Nirvana” marked a triumphant return, blending their signature sound with fresh influences, signaling the beginning of a new chapter.
Pierce the Veil is celebrated for their ability to combine raw emotion with technical prowess, earning them a loyal following and critical respect. Their music bridges the gap between post-hardcore, emo, and pop-punk, influencing a new generation of artists. With passionate lyrics, electrifying live performances, and a commitment to authenticity, Pierce the Veil continues to leave an indelible mark on the alternative music scene
