It is the singer’s first piece of new material in over a decade
Peter Gabriel has released a brand new song “Panopticom.” The track is the first taste of his forthcoming album i/o, the long-awaited follow up to 2002’s Up. The song features Brian Eno on synthesizer and bells, alongside bassist Tony Levin, drummer Manu Katché, and guitarist David Rhodes. Stream the official audio below now.
Gabriel says of the song, “The first song is based on an idea I have been working on to imitate the creation of an indefinitely expandable accessible data globe: the Panopticom. We are beginning to connect a like-minded group of people who might be able to bring this thing to life, to allow the world to see itself better and understand more of what’s really going on.”
This spring, Gabriel is returning to the road. The i/o Tour will see Gabriel perform across the UK & Europe. The trek marks his first shows outside of North America since 2014’s Back to Front Tour celebrating the era-defining album So. The 22-date run in Europe will kick off in Krakow, Poland on 18 May 2023, with dates in Italy, France, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, The Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, and the UK. The trek wraps up in Dublin, Ireland on 25 June 2023.
“It’s been a while and I am now surrounded by a whole lot of new songs and am excited to be taking them out on the road for a spin. Look forward to seeing you out there,” Gabriel said.
A North American leg is set to be announce soon for late summer or early fall.
