Days after he retired from touring, the Black Sabbath singer took home two trophies

GRAMMY® Awards 2023 [Recording Academy]

Last night in Lost Angeles, the 65th annual GRAMMY® Awards took place at the Crypto.com Arena. The star-studded event saw many of rock and metal’s best strut down the red carpet in hopes of coming home with some hardware. At the end of the night, the evening’s biggest winners were Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ozzy Osbourne and alt-rock upstarts Wet Leg.

Just days after announcing his retirement from touring, Ozzy went on to win for Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Album. It marked the metal legend’s first solo GRAMMY® win since 1994 when he won Best Metal Performance for “I Don’t Wanna Change the World (Live & Loud). Ozzy garnered two more as a member of Black Sabbath for Best Metal Performance in 2000 for “Iron Man” (Reunion) and in 2013 for Best Metal Performance for “God Is Dead?” (13).

Ozzy’s acclaimed thirteenth studio album Patient Number 9 performed well commercially, peaking at No. 1 on UK Rock & Metal Albums chart and No. 2 on UK Albums. Stateside, the album hit No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 across Billboard’s Top Alternative, Top Rock, and Top Hard Rock Albums charts. The album’s title track – which features a stunning guest appearance by the late Jeff Beck – was also nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song.

Brandi Carlile also took home two trophies for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song. Classic rock icon Bonnie Raitt beat out the likes of Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar, Harry Styles, Lizzo, Beyoncé, Adele, and DJ Khaled for the Song of the Year honor. Måneskin and Wet Let lost out in the Best New Artist category, however Wet Leg still ended up having a monster night, sweeping the Alternative categories with two wins.

Wet Leg’s have exploded out of the gate with their self-titled debut album. The record peaked at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart. With two GRAMMY® Awards already under their belt, the sky is the limit for this promising young act.
