The legendary songwriter toured into his 80s
Legendary singer, songwriter, and guitarist Gordon Lightfoot has passed away. The news was confirmed by his longtime publicist Victoria Lord to CBC. He was 84 years old.
“He is our poet laureate, he is our iconic singer-songwriter,” Rush frontman Geddy Lee said in the 2019 documentary Gordon Lightfoot: If You Could Read My Mind.
In 2012, Gordon Lightfoot was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2020, he released his 21st studio album titles Solo. Lightfoot toured extensively throughout 2017 and 2018. He returned to the road post-pandemic, playing several shows in 2021 and 2022.
