The legendary performer joins just 24 other artists to achieve the rare feat

Last night at the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, Elton John joined Hollywood’s elite group of EGOT winners after securing the Emmy Award for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for his 2022 Disney+ special, Elton John Live: Farewell from Dodger Stadium. The concert was part of the legendary performer’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, which served as a fitting end to his touring career.

The three-hour, historic, live-streamed concert event from Disney Branded Television and produced by Fulwell 73 and Rocket Entertainment gave Disney+ audiences a front-row seat to his electrifying and legendary performance as he bid farewell to North America. Heralded as one of the greatest send-offs of all time, artists, entertainers, and special guests, along with a packed stadium of fans and admirers worldwide, celebrated the music legend’s epic full-circle moment at Dodger Stadium, paying tribute to his 1975 performance that cemented his global success.

Elton previously won two Academy Awards for Best Original Song for [“I’m Gonna] Love Me Again” from his biopic, Rocketman, and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” from Disney’s 1995 animated classic, The Lion King, a Tony Award for Best Original Score for Aida, and six GRAMMY® Awards to his name, including the coveted GRAMMY® Legend trophy.

With his Emmy win last night, Elton John joined the exclusive circle of just 24 other stars who have achieved Hollywood’s highest honor.

In October, Elton John made a special guest appearance on The Rolling Stones’ chart-topping new album, Hackney Diamonds. He performs on the track, “Get Close. and “Live By the Sword. The latter track also features original Stones bassist Bill Wyman, and longtime drummer Charlie Watts, who passed away at 80 in August of 2021. Watts recorded drums for the track back in 2019. Other special guests on the album include Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and Lady Gaga.

Last summer, Sir Elton wrapped up his massive Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour, his final trek around the globe. He once again sold out some of the world’s most iconic venues. One of the many highlights of the run was his headlining performance at Glastonbury in the UK.

Elton John is one of the most successful artists in music history. Throughout his career, he’s sold over over 200 million albums worldwide, In 1992, Elton was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He was inshrined in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame two years later in 1994.
