Duran Duran have revealed the music video for their track, “Black Moonlight.” The song is from their latest album, Danse Macabre. The song features member Andy Taylor, and was co-produced by Nile Rodgers who also plays guitar on the track. Stream the official clip below, directed by Jonas Åkerlund (Madonna, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga).
The all-new Danse Macabre is Duran Duran’s sixteenth studio effort. Released through Tape Modern/BMG, it is the follow-up to 2021’s Future Past. The record is available on translucent galaxy special edition vinyl, standard black vinyl, CD, and digital download. There are a supremely limited amount of signed galaxy vinyls and CDs. About the new album, keyboardist Nick Rhodes says, “The key is trying to find the balance of dark and light. Of course, you can play the tracks in any order, but it’s meant to be a whole experience.”
“After all of these years, Dance Macabre offers an interesting insight into the personality of the band,” bassist John Taylor states. “The music packs a real punch.”
“I hope you take a journey with us through the darker side of our inspirations into where we’re at in 2023,” adds drummer Roger Taylor. “Maybe, you’ll leave with a deeper understanding of how Duran Duran got to this moment in time.”
However, one special Las Vegas gig on Halloween back in 2022 served as the catalyst for Dance Macabre.
“We had a blast that night,” recalls Nick. “We played six covers, and the audience didn’t know what to expect next.
There are already loads of Christmas records, so we thought, ‘Wouldn’t it be fun to own Halloween?’”
Simon goes on, “We all learned a lot during the process of making Future Past, and we definitely applied those
lessons to making Dance Macabre.”
“This album is much more spontaneous than much of our recent work,” Roger goes on. “The energy of the
Halloween performance seemed to spill into the entire writing and recording process. It reminded me of how we
worked in the early days of the band. The process started the same way—with four people in a room.”
Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame® in 2022, they’ve sold north of 100 million albums around the world
in addition to scoring 18 American chart hits and 21 Top 20 UK smashes. Their various awards and accolades have
included eight Lifetime Achievement Awards, two GRAMMY® Awards, two Ivor Novellos, two BRIT Awards
(including “Outstanding Contribution to Music” in 2004), and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
