“Watching ‘Crack Cocaine’ get released to the world seems a little like giving birth,” says Billy Morrison. “This song has held a special place in my heart since the day I wrote it with Ozzy [Osbourne] and Steve [Stevens]. We have all nurtured and protected this track for a long while and I cannot thank TLG/ZOID enough for being the midwife! And now it’s out there in the world, running around, invading people’s sound systems and creating rock ‘n’ roll mischief. Perfect!”
Steve Stevens recalls getting a call from Morrison, “’Hey Steve, fancy having Ozzy and me come round your home studio for a bit of fun?’ Billy said at the other end of the phone line. Four cups of coffee and a whole lot of laughs later, you now hear ‘Crack Cocaine.’ It’s a song from us Ozzy fans, for Ozzy fans around the world.”
Last month, Ozzy revealed the track’s title during a recent episode of his podcast. When asked by his daughter, Kelly, about what he’s been up to lately, Ozzy replied, “I did Billy Morrison’s new song, ‘Crack Cocaine.'”
“Oh, what a lovely name,” Kelly quipped.”
“Well, it’s not about crack cocaine,” Ozzy stated. “It’s about being addicted to a girl.”
Billy Morrison’s forthcoming album, The Morrison Project, is due out on April 19 through The Label Group/Virgin Music. The lead single, “”Drowning,” comes out on February 23. In addition to Ozzy Osbourne, other special guests on the record include Billy Idol, Steve Via, Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour), John 5 (Mötley Crüe), Al Jourgensen (Ministry), DMC (Run-DMC), Linda Perry (4 Non Blondes), Steve Stevens (Billy Idol), and Tommy Clufetos, who has performed with the likes of Rob Zombie, Ted Nugent, and Black Sabbath.
All songs feature Billy Idol drummer Erik Eldenius and former Marilyn Manson bassist Jeordie White, a.k.a Twiggy Ramirez.
Morrison’s debut album, god shaped hole, came out in October 0f 2015.
Back in October, Ozzy Osbourne regretfully pulled out of Power Trip. The “Crazy Train” singer said that his body was telling him that he’s “just not ready yet” to play a festival. British metal juggernauts Judas Priest stepped in for Ozzy.
As painful as this is, I’ve had to make the decision to bow out of performing on Power Trip in October. My original plan was to return to the stage in the summer of 2024, and when the offer to do this show came in, I optimistically moved forward. Unfortunately, my body is telling me that I’m just not ready yet and I am much too proud to have the first show that I do in nearly five years be half-assed. The band that will be replacing me on Power Trip will be announced shortly. They are personal friends of mine and I can promise that you will not be disappointed. Above all, I want to thank my fans, my band, and my crew for their unconditional loyalty and continual support. I love you all and I will see you soon. God Bless.– Ozzy Osbourne
Just days after announcing his retirement from touring, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ozzy Osbourne won two GRAMMY® Awards at the 65th annual event in Los Angeles back in 2023. He took home the hardware for Best Metal Performance and Best Rock Album. It marked the metal legend’s first solo GRAMMY® win since 1994 when he won Best Metal Performance for “I Don’t Wanna Change the World (Live & Loud).
Ozzy released his acclaimed thirteenth studio album Patient Number 9 last September. The album, produced by Andrew Watt, features an incredible cast of guest stars including Eric Clapton, Toni Iommi (Black Sabbath), Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Robert Trujillo (Metallica), Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age), Duff McKagan (Guns N’ Roses), Zakk Wylde, as well as late musicians Jeff Beck and Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters).
The record performed well commercially, peaking at No. 1 on UK Rock & Metal Albums chart and No. 2 on UK Albums. Stateside, the album hit No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and No. 1 across Billboard’s Top Alternative, Top Rock, and Top Hard Rock Albums charts. The album’s title track – which features a stunning guest appearance by the late Jeff Beck – was also nominated for Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song.
