The band continued their tradition of killer covers and topped the Mainstream Rock chart
On this day in 1998, Metallica released Garage, Inc. Playing off their legendary 1987 covers effort, The $5.98 E.P. – Garage Days Re-Revisited, the new double-disc album featured all of the band’s original covers, plus a new CD featuring songs by Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Mercyful Fate, and more, all with Metallica’s signature spin on them. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200, behind another two-disc outing – Garth Brooks’ mega-hit Double Live. Their cover of Bob Seger’s seminal track ‘Turn the Page’ garnered them No. 1 Mainstream Rock hit.
