Red Rocks The Rebellion: Interview with Bassist Randy Armstrong at Carolina Rebellion 2012
Randy Armstrong and the boys painted the town Red at Carolina Rebellion 2012. Red made a pit stop in Rockingham, NC to take part in the Rebellion festivities, and I got a chance to sit down with Randy for a few minutes to talk about the band’s upcoming album and tour plans. Randy told me that the band has been writing for awhile now, with plans to head into the studio in July. He said they’ve been so damn busy lately, that online posts from fans reminded them about their appearance at this year’s Rebellion! The band had every intention of making a statement in Carolina. Randy said the band’s set was going to be “heavy”…and it was!
Randy also dropped a hint that they were going to be joined by a very special guest during their set at Carolina Rebellion. At the time, he couldn’t tell me who, but it ended up being none other that former Korn guitarist Brian “Head” Welch, who ended up reuniting with is former band during their set later on that night. After the initial surprise, the combination made a lot of sense. Red is a Christian Rock band, and Welch is a born-again Christian. In addition, it was later announced that Welch’s new solo project, Love and Death, will be touring with Red and P.O.D. this spring and summer.
Red been one of the most successful heavy rock bands in the industry over the last five years. The band was founded in 2004 by Randy and his twin brother, lead guitarist Anthony Armstrong. Their debut album, End of Silence, was nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best Rock Gospel Album” in 2006. Their most recent record,Until We Have Faces, hit #2 on Billboard Top 200. Their previous two LPs, End of Silence and Innocence & Instinct, hit #184 and #15 respectively on Billboard Top 200. The three albums combined have produced 7 Top 25 Billboard Singles. The band has toured relentlessly throughout their career, sharing stages with the likes of Creed, Chevelle, Breaking Benjamin, P.O.D., Buckcherry, Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, and more.
