It’s In Our Blood: A Conversation with John Fred Young of Black Stone Cherry
The other night, I got a chance to catch up with my good friend John Fred Young of Black Stone Cherry. John Fred is an absolute monster on the drum kit, with some of the best fills in the business. And, he’s one of the coolest dudes in rock n’ roll. Black Stone Cherry know seriously know how to rock. All three of their albums have cracked the Top 100 on the Billboad Top 200 Chart, with 7 singles reaching Top 30 on the Billboard Singles Chart. Their last two albums each hit #1 in the UK.
The good ole’ boys from Kentucky are fresh back from a huge co-headlining tour in Europe with Alter Bridge, and now they are hitting the road again back in the States with Cavo. The new single, “In My Blood,” from their latest record, Between The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea (Roadrunner Records), has cracked the Top 10 on the Billboard Singles Chart.
John Fred and I talked about what the song was about, and the concept of the video (it’s really great stuff). And what else did we talk about? Well…what DIDN’T we talk about! Every time I see this we guy, we talk until no end. We chatted for over 20 minutes on camera, and I found out the hard way that my camera only shoots 20 minute videos at a time! (I think I need to upgrade my camera…). Don’t worry, there’s still a ton of great stuff here for you guys; a great look insideBlack Stone Cherry’s world and what’s coming up for them. The band has a ton of touring going on this spring and summer, including stops at Rock On The Range and Rocklahoma (I can’t wait to catch up John and the boys there!). Make sure you catch the guys on this tour – they’re really mixing up the setlist, and throwing in some amazing covers too! CRANK IT UP!
