In Memoriam – Mitch Lucker of Suicide Silence

Tragedy struck the music world today with the passing of Suicide Silence frontman Mitch Lucker. Lucker died this morning as a result of injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash on Wednesday night. He was hospitalized just after 9pm, and The Orange County Coroner’s Office pronounced the singer dead at 6:17 a.m. Thursday, November 1 at UCI Medical Center in Orange County, California. He was 28 years old. The 28-year-old singer lived in Huntington Beach but grew up in Riverside, California.

Legendary metal record label Nuclear Blast Records recently signed Suicide Silence to a multi-album deal. In the wake of Lucker’s death, the label released this statement:

“It is with great sadness and regret this morning that we have to report that Mitch Lucker, vocalist of Suicide Silence, passed away a few hours ago due to injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. Nuclear Blast would like to offer our condolences to his family, friends, band members and fans worldwide who are affected by this loss. He left us doing what he loved to do most.” – Nuclear Blast Records

The remaining members of Suicide Silence issued the following statement:

“There’s no easy way to say this. Mitch passed away earlier this morning from injuries sustained during a motorcycle accident. This is completely devastating to all of us and we offer our deepest condolences to his family. He will be forever in our hearts. R.I.P. Mitchell Adam Lucker. We love you, brother.” – Suicide Silence

It was well known that Lucker was a huge motorcycle enthusiast with a passion for riding and a need for speed. On October 3, Lucker clearly stated his philosophy on life in a tweet:

Mitch was currently residing in Huntington Beach, CA with his wife, Jolie, and their 5-year old daughter, Kenadee. In addition  to his wife and daughter, Mitch is survived by his mother, Denise, and his brothers Cliff and Kelton. He is also survived by his musical brethren, Suicide Silence: Chris Garza, Mark Heylmun, Alex Lopez, and Dan Kenny. There is no word yet from the band’s camp whether or not they will press on without Mitch, and I wouldn’t expect such an announcement to come for some time.

Suicide Silence exploded onto the mainstream in 2007 with their major label debut, The Cleansing, which hit #94 on the Billboard Top 200. In the summer of 2008, the band toured on the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. For the rest of the year, the band would go on to tour with the likes of Parkway Drive, Bury Your Dead, A Day To Remember, and The Acacia Strain. In 2009, Suicide Silence won the Revolver Golden God Award for “Best New Talent”. In the same year, the band released their sophomore effort, No Time To Bleed, which debuted at #32 on the Billboard Top 200. In 2010, the band trekked across the country on Vans Warped Tour 2010. The following year would see the band enjoy their biggest success yet. Their third album, The Black Crown, which debuted at #28 on the Billboard Top 200 and sold over 14,000 copies in it’s first week of sales. In the summer of 2011, Suicide Silence made their return to Mayhem Festival.

I’d like to extend my deepest sympathies and heartfelt prayers to Jodie, Kenadee, the rest of Mitch’s family, and Suicide Silence. Mitchel, I wish you peace and comfort now as you enter a new life of peace. Thank you for all the great music you’ve left us with. God Bless, and rock on. It’s not how long you live, but how well you live. – by Matt Bishop
